Numerical Analysis of Fluid Flow in a Compact Phase Separator
A compact separator consisting of two volutes (inlet and outlet) connected with a cylindrical chamber is proposed as a cost-effective alternative to conventional separators. The separator has a wide range of applications in the oil and gas industry. It has the advantages of being compact, free of the effect of motion on floating platforms, more tolerant to flow fluctuations and can be modularis...
متن کاملLocal Velocity Measurements and Computational Fluid Dynamics (cfd) Simulations of Swirling Flow in a Cylindrical Cyclone Separator
ABSTRACT Local measurements and 3-D CFD simulations in GasLiquid cylindrical Cyclone (GLCC) separators are scarce. The main objective of this study is to conduct local measurements and 3-D CFD simulations to understand the swirling flow behavior in a cylindrical cyclone with one inclined tangential inlet. Axial and tangential velocities and turbulent intensities across the GLCC diameter (ID=3.5...
متن کاملThe Sonification of Numerical Fluid Flow Simulations
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software simulates fluid, air flow and heat transfer by solving the Navier-Stokes (N-S) equations numerically. Realistic 3-D engineering simulations typically yield the values of 7 or more variables (e.g. fluid component velocities and temperatures) at hundreds of thousands of points in space, all as a function of time. It has been noted that solutions of the ...

An accurate description of the fluid flow and heat transfer within a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR), for the safety analysis and reactor performance is always desirable. In this paper a mathematical model of the fundamental physical phenomena which are associated to a typical PWR is presented. The mathematical model governs the fluid dynamics in the reactor. Using commercial software CFX, a co...
متن کاملFluid modelling of microfluidic separator channels
In a microfluidic ultrasonic separator device, the microchannel geometry is inherently angular due to the anisotropic etch processes used. A CFD model is used to investigate eddy formation induced by this angular geometry. Results are applicable to various microfluidic devices and show that certain etch patterns significantly reduce eddy formation. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
